Phnom Penh-Silk Island and Ordong 2-Day Tour

Day 1: Phnom Penh Tour

Your day begins at 8:00 am with a visit to the iconic Independence Monument, a striking structure symbolizing Cambodia’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1953. From there, we continue to the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Cambodian monarch, where you will admire the traditional Khmer architecture and the beauty of the Silver Pagoda, home to national treasures including gold and jeweled Buddha statues.

After exploring the palace grounds, we will pause for lunch at a local restaurant before moving on to some of Phnom Penh’s most important historical sites. Our afternoon starts with the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), once a high school transformed into a prison during the Khmer Rouge era, followed by a deeply moving visit to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where thousands of victims were laid to rest.

Later, we will experience Phnom Penh’s vibrant culture with a stop at the Central Market (Psar Thmei), famous for its unique Art Deco design and wide range of goods. The journey continues to Wat Phnom, the hilltop temple considered the birthplace of the capital. Finally, we will end the day at the bustling Russian Market, an ideal spot to shop for souvenirs, handicrafts, and antiques.

Day 2: Ordong Day Tour

Your day begins at 7:30 or 8:00 am with a short drive and ferry ride across the Mekong River to Silk Island, a peaceful retreat from the busy streets of Phnom Penh. The island offers a glimpse of traditional Cambodian life, where farmers cultivate fertile fields and wooden houses reflect the charm of rural villages. Highlights include visiting a working silk farm, where you can see the fascinating process of silk weaving, and the Coconut School, an inspiring community project built from recycled materials and run by local volunteers.

After lunch, the tour continues to Phnom Oudong, located about 40 kilometers northwest of the city. Once Cambodia’s royal capital, Oudong is set atop a hill crowned with stupas that rise above the plains like a mystical fortress. The name Oudong means “noble,” while Meanchey means “victory.” If time allows, the trip concludes with shopping at the Russian Market or Central Market before returning to Phnom Penh.
